Face Serums: The Secret to Youthful and Clear Skin

Woman Hair

Nobody buys moisturizers anymore. Wherever you look, women are looking for skin serums. What on earth are these magic potions? Is this another fad or is this the elixir of youth we have all been looking for?

What is a serum?

A serum is a moisturizer, and then it isn’t. It has some properties including keeping skin hydrated and moisturized. A serum is a powerful solution of essential amino acids, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. The main aim of using a serum is to directly apply all the beneficial antioxidants, hydrating agents and restoring agents into your skin. It has a high concentration of active ingredients that can work its magic on your skin.

Can I replace my moisturizer by a serum?

If your serum has a decent dose of ceramides and hyaluronic acid, you can easily replace your moisturizer with your brand new favorite serum. However, this does not mean they become moisturizers for everyone. Face creams and lotions are usually heavier. They create a moisture barrier on your skin to make sure all the essential oils and minerals stay in.

Are there different types of serums in the market?

There are two types of serums that you can try. The water-based serums are ideal for oily skin. These go under your regular face cream or moisturizer. Their molecules are smaller, and they can directly penetrate into your skin. They contain water-soluble vitamins like Vitamin C and other minerals that can rejuvenate your skin. Then there is the oil-based serum. This one is imperative for skin nourishment. Their constituent molecules are much bigger. They are supposed to keep the cream and your regular moisturizer like the PCA Clear Skin in place during the entire day.

Is serum suitable for oily skin?

Serums are great because they ultimately address the problem of oil buildup. The water-based serums have P50 that quickly penetrates through the upper layers of the skin. It carries all the vitamins and minerals deep within the layers of the skin. This keeps the skin looking fresh, hydrated and young throughout the day. While most favorite moisturizers have 5% to 10%, serums can have up to 70% of active ingredients reaching your skin directly.

They are costly. Why should I buy them?

Sadly, serums cost big bucks. However, when you opt for serums, you will automatically not need many makeups. Soon you will be able to say goodbye to that costly foundation and the concealer. A great serum will give you the bang for your buck! Once you find the serum that best fits your skin, you will not look for anything else.

How do I store serum?

Be extremely careful while storing your precious buy. Serums have a lot of active ingredients, and they can spoil fast. They do best in cool, dry places, far away from direct sunlight. Be sure to use it up within next six months.
