Beauty Guide for Avoiding Common Makeup Mistakes

Makeup Beauty

Makeup is an essential tool for enhancing how you look but if you do not use it appropriately, you may end up ruining your appearance. Small steps such as choosing the right foundation and applying it properly, naturally filling in your eyebrows and washing your brushes as often as required can make a significant difference in how you feel and look when you are wearing your favorite type of makeup.

Skin Preparation

Preparing your skin before you apply foundation is important because putting it on flaky, dry or oily ski will create a mask on your face. You should cleanse your face and exfoliate regularly to ensure that your skin is clear and smooth. Before you apply your makeup, use a moisturizer to hydrate your skin.

Applying a primer before your foundation helps to provide the base that is necessary for your makeup to last throughout the day. Primer also fills in lines, wrinkles and pores so that your foundation is smoother.

Foundation Shades

  • Try out different foundation shades to make sure that you find the right match. You can test foundation by swiping it on your hand or along the jaw line. Test the shades in natural light to ensure that you are making the right choice.
  • Some people prefer to use their fingers to apply foundation but you can avoid the streaky effect of this technique by using a sponge or brush. Look for full and dense brushes that can effectively blend your foundation.
  • If you want to use a sponge, wet it slightly to keep it from soaking up a lot of the makeup while you blend the foundation.

Concealer

Avoid using an excessively light concealer that highlights the area around your eyes and does not look natural. Choose a concealer that is the same a shade lighter than your skin or the foundation you use to brighten up your eyes.

For discoloration and spots, it is advisable to use a concealer that is the exact match for your foundation. Using a lighter concealer will draw attention areas that you want to conceal. Your foundation and concealer should ideally match seamlessly. Brushes and sponges are good options for blending concealer and hiding spots.

Setting Powder

Use a reasonable amount of setting powder and dust it over oily or shiny areas. You can apply light layers on the chin, nose and forehead. Translucent powder formulas are ideal if you do not need a lot of coverage or color.

Contour and Bronzer

Contour and bronzer products are useful for adding definition and warmth to the face. Use small amounts for a natural effect and subtle definition. A fluffy brush will help you apply the product softly along the forehead, cheeks and jaws. Blending your contour or bronzer well prevents dark and misplaced stripes around your face.

Blush

Placing you blush on the lower area of your cheeks will give you a droopy appearance. Focus on the apple or higher section of the cheeks and blend the blush backwards along the cheekbone. Begin with a liberal amount and add more when you need extra color. Blend well with an angled brush to create a natural and vibrant look.
